What is Light Therapy? Among the primary draws to light therapy is its natural and noninvasive therapeutic nature which provides its benefits without the drawbacks of side effects which are so prevalent in other forms of medicine practiced today. Furthermore, its use is an extremely effective and powerful method of prevention of disease and illness. It is a very simple, practical, and natural form of therapy, which compliments all other forms of holistic health seamlessly, and without any risk of conflict. Fortunately, it is also readily available, and can be self-administered for very favorable results. The basis of light therapy is natural light, as it contains the full spectrum of its component colors, including UV and infrared, is a basic human nutrient and is necessary for optimum health. The human being is nourished by the stimulation of sunlight primarily through the eyes and skin. Sunlight entering through the eyes goes directly into the brains hypothalamus to affect every system and cell in our bodies. Sunlight striking the skin directly stimulates vitamin D production. We are also nourished indirectly by eating foods, drinking fluids, or breathing air that has been vitalized by the sun's energy. However, due to many varying reasons, we do not necessarily receive all of the natural light that is necessary for maintaining health, and healing from illness and disease. That is where light therapy’s importance comes into play.
